The Trainee & Apprentice Program offers talented students the opportunity to train in the highest level of the school as part of the Conservatory Program and work with the North Carolina Dance Theatre dancers and directors. Trainees and Apprentices learn the repertory of NC Dance Theatre 2 and have the opportunity to perform with them as well as with the main company. Apprentice positions are given to the most technically advanced students and offer more performance opportunities with the first company. Trainees and Apprentices are considered for future employment with the first and second companies.
Academic schooling must be completed or done by independent study to be considered for trainee or apprentice positions. NC Dance Theatre highly recommends Indiana University’s Independent Study Program for High School or College level instruction. Dance Theatre offers tutorial assistance for students working on independent study. Students registered in the Pre-Professional Division may also take advantage of this independent study program or they may register in one of our fine area public or private high schools.
To apply for Trainee & Apprentice positions, each dancer must attend an audition at one of the Summer Intensive audition sites. If you cannot attend one of the scheduled auditions you may send a 10 minute DVD of center work on pointe, including adagio, petite allegro, grand allegro and pirouette combinations. Also include a short classical variation or performance footage. Include the video application form (form attached) and $25 fee. Please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like the DVD returned. If you have any questions regarding the auditions, please call 704.372.0101 x111.
