NC Dance Theatre Summer Repertory Performance
August 8, 2008, at 8 p.m.

Charlotte, N.C. - North Carolina Dance Theatre’s Summer Repertory Performance displays the hard work and talent of the over 100 dedicated students from around the country that attend the summer intensive program at North Carolina Dance Theatre School of Dance. The summer program is designed to challenge and encourage the serious dance student, and classes are offered at three levels for ages 11-22, in three to six week sessions.

This year the summer intensive program included students from all over the United States and even other countries. “Our summer intensive program gives serious dance students the opportunity to train with some of the most respected dance teachers in the world. They study a variety of dance styles in addition to classical ballet technique, such as modern, jazz, ballroom and character dance,” said Darleen Callaghan, director of the School of Dance.

Faculty for the program include Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Artistic Director Terrance Orr, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Ballet Mistress Marianna Tcherkassky, New World School of the Arts Faculty Member Gerard Ebitz, and NC Dance Theatre’s own artistic director, Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux.

“The Summer Repertory Performance is an evening of dance with great variety, highlighting the strengths of these talented young dancers,” said Callaghan. “Students are given the opportunity to demonstrate all they have learned during the summer program in the final performance. This year’s performance includes Act II of Swan Lake, new original works by the ballet, modern and jazz teachers, and solo variations from the classical repertory.”

For more information on the Summer Repertory Performance contact Alexis Ingram at 704.372.0101 x2770 or schooolofncdt@ncdance.org.
