Local Youth are Invited to Audition for
North Carolina Dance Theatre’s Nutcracker

Charlotte, N.C. (August 16, 2007) – North Carolina Dance Theatre (NC Dance Theatre) is opening Nutcrackerauditions to local youth for the first time in 10 years. Previously youth roles have only been available to NC Dance Theatre School of Dance students.

Artistic Director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux’s Nutcracker, which premiered last season, is being extended to two weekends of performances this season and features the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. 

“Dance Theatre is committed to community outreach and involvement, and this season we are looking forward to students throughout the community joining us for Nutcracker,” said Executive Director Doug Singleton.

Nutcracker will take place at the Belk Theater on December 14-16 and 21-23, 2007. There will be two casts of children this season due to the increased number of performances. Casting will be determined based on technical ability, performance quality and sizing for costumes. Depending on the number auditioning, there is no guarantee all children will be cast.

SPECIAL DETAILS:

  • Late students will not be permitted into the audition
  • Attend the audition time based on your age as of September 23, 2007             
    Exception: 7-year-olds turning 8 by December 31, 2007,
    are eligible to audition
  • Girls ages 14+ should bring pointe shoes to the audition
  • Nutcracker rehearsals begin Friday, October 5

Audition forms are available at ncdance.org. Forms should be completed and brought to the auditions. Prior to the auditions, you can fax the form to 704.375.0260, mail the form to Dance Theatre or bring the form to Dance Theatre’s office. Dance Theatre is located at 622 East 28th Street, Suite 113. Levine Children’s Hospital presents Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux’s Nutcracker, the classic family ballet that has thrilled audiences for years. The holiday spectacular is sure to be enjoyed by all ages, through its underlying theme of love and dance. President and Artistic Director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux says, “This Nutcracker aims to celebrate the children of the community of Charlotte.”
