Hailed by The New York Times as "One of the most sought out choreographers of the day," Dwight Rhoden began dancing at the age of 17 while studying acting. He has performed with the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Les Ballet Jazz De Montreal and was a principal dancer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Rhoden has appeared in numerous television specials, documentaries and commercials throughout the United States, Canada and Europe and has been a featured performer on many PBS Great Performances specials.
Rhoden is the co-director and founder of Complexions Dance Company based in New York City. Under Rhoden’s direction, Complexions has brought its unique blend of contemporary dance to audiences throughout the world including the United States, Europe, South America, Canada, Australia and most recently at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, Russia.
Dance Magazine has called his work "post-Balanchinean choreography, a new aesthetic in movement, stage, picture, and performance concepts reflecting a post-modern, techno-savvy worldview.” Rhoden is a 1998 New York Foundation for the Arts Award Recipient, and in 2001, Rhoden was honored with the Choo San Goh Award for Choreography.
Rhoden became resident choreographer of NC Dance Theatre in 2006.
