Contemporary Dance Pedagogy and Choreography: Expanding Experiences

This interactive workshop explores what “contemporary” dance is all about and includes a warm-up using contemporary movement, learning a choreographic phrase from one of Dwight Rhoden’s works and exploring strategies for teaching and dance composition, utilizing contemporary dance.

Who Cares?: “Seeing the Music, Hearing the Dance” - George Balanchine                                                             

This experiential movement-based workshop explores interdisciplinary topics related to dance, reading, culture, American history, and music, through George Balanchine’s ballet, Who Cares? to music by George Gershwin.

This lesson plan was created by Sharon Elementary teacher Lea Harkins after she participated in NC Dance Theatre's September Primary Educators Enrichment Program workshop. The workshop was called Story-telling through Movement: Beauty and the Beast and was inspired by the Beauty and the Beast ballet.
