Trainee & Apprentice Program

Trainee & Apprentice Program
Trainees and Apprentices and have the opportunity to work and perform with NC Dance Theatre as well as with the School of Dance’s student performing company. These dancers continue training in the Pre-Professional Division of the School of Dance as members of the all-day Conservatory Program. Students in this program have the opportunity to take Company class on a rotating basis and are matched with a mentor from the Company. They also learn how to write a resume and make an audition video. Apprentice positions are given to the most technically advanced students. Some Company apprentices are paid a stipend for the year. Trainees and Apprentices are considered for future employment with the Company and NC Dance Theatre 2.

Academics
Academic schooling must be completed or done by independent study to be considered for trainee or apprentice positions. NC Dance Theatre recommends Indiana University’s Independent Study Program for High School or College level instruction. Students work on their studies before and after their dance classes each day utilizing the various textbooks and on-line programs that Indiana University offers. The School of Dance also provides local tutors for assistance to the Conservatory students and has wireless internet access for laptop use on the premises. Students may also attend the Northwest School of the Arts (NWSA) in Charlotte and are eligible for college credit through UNC Charlotte. Home schooled or part-time college students are also eligible for this program.

To apply for Trainee & Apprentice positions, each dancer must attend an audition at one of the Summer Intensive audition sites.  If you cannot attend one of the scheduled auditions you may send a 10 minute DVD of center work on pointe, including adagio, petite allegro, grand allegro and pirouette combinations. Also include a short classical variation or performance footage. Include the video application form (form attached) and $25 fee. Please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like the DVD returned. If you have any questions regarding the auditions, please call 704.372.0101 x2770.
