North Carolina Dance Theatre School of Dance is auditioning talented boys ages 9 through 11, to receive full tuition scholarships, for the 2008-2009 Boys Scholarship Class. Additional auditions will be held in July. NC Dance Theatre Company member David Ingram teaches the class, which begins in September. No prior dance experience is required.

North Carolina Dance Theatre, in partnership with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, presents the 2008 Salute to Educators awards. Nominations are being accepted through April 18 for CMS Dance Educator of the Year, Dance Student of the Year, and Dance Champion of the Year. Dive into an underwater world with the premiere of Mark Diamond's The Little Mermaid. Based upon Hans Christian Andersen's fable, Diamond's ballet chronicles a young mermaid through her adventures of discovering a new world. This program is part of the Matinee Magic series. Come see the next generation of professional dancers perform in NC Dance Theatre’s annual Repertory Ensemble Performance featuring the Company’s trainees and apprentices. Patricia McBride, associate artistic director of North Carolina Dance Theatre, is restaging George Balanchine’s Stars & Stripes – 1st Regiment and Valse Fantaisie. The Repertory Ensemble will also present new works by Sabrina Berry, Mark Diamond, Heather Ferranti Ferguson and Madeline Guerdat. Tickets will go on sale late April and will be available through the Blumenthal Performance Center Box Office. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $5 for NC Dance Theatre School of Dance students.

This new community dance camp, offered through NC Dance Theatre’s Education and Outreach Department, is for ages 6 through 11, and no prior dance experience is required. Professional Teaching Artists will lead the camp. Campers ages 6 and 7 will participate in a Dance-A-Story camp,
inspired by different story ballets. Campers ages 8 through
11 will participate in Bamboula to Ballet and
Jazz, Jive and Jam. These campers learn traditional dances
from African Bamboula to classical ballet and American jazz.
They will also learn to create their own dances and share their
choreography in a dance jam on the last day of camp. |
