Residency Program
Teaching Artists spend a day, a week or months at your school in a residency program tailored to meet curriculum needs. Through dance composition and performance, students explore topics from the Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies curricula. Students build creativity and problem solving skills while physically engaged through the art form of dance.
Residency Programs Include:
Dance-A-Story: Preschool and Library Visits (Pre-school) Young children are invited to dance through favorite children’s stories. During this 45 minute program led by a Dance Theatre Teaching Artist, children listen to a story and then recreate it through creative movement. The visit also includes a take-home activity related to dance.
Stories in Motion (Grades K-5)
Ballets inspire learning through creative movement, enhancing Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.
Capturing Creativity (Grades 6-8 and 9-12)
Lesson units inspired by NC Dance Theatre’s professional choreographers and repertoire serve as the catalyst for student learning through dance.
Lecture Demonstrations
Dance Theatre comes to your school or public gathering place with a one-hour narrated performance featuring excerpts from Dance Theatre’s current repertory. This event includes opportunities for the audience to participate, along with a question and answer session with the professional dancers. Note: This performance can be paired with an in-school residency.
Master Classes
Intermediate to advanced dance students have the opportunity to experience the skilled and inspiring teaching of Dance Theatre’s master teachers during a 90-minute master class. Each lesson can be developed to meet the needs and interests of your students. An opportunity not to be missed for aspiring dancers and dance lovers!
