Auditioning & Program Eligibility

Students may audition at any time either by video or in person at a summer intensive audition or at our studios in Charlotte. Students are evaluated on the following criteria to determine eligibility for this intense level of training:

  • Natural physical attributes such as flexibility, coordination, body proportion, arch of the foot, line of the leg, muscle strength, stamina, jump, turn-out
  • Musicality
  • Focus, level of discipline, ability to learn quickly
  • Commitment level which includes desire, drive, passion for the art form, attendance record

The audition tour for 2012 is over, but DVD auditions are still being accepted. Those who are interested in the year-round program are encouraged to attend our Summer Intensive. The School of Dance uses the Summer Intensive as a time to evaluate dancers for acceptance into our year-round training programs at the Conservatory, Trainee and Apprentice levels. Dancers who wish to be considered for these programs are advised to attend our Summer Intensive.

If you would like to audition by video, please send a 10-minute DVD of center work. Include the video application form, a photo in first arabesque and the $35 audition fee. Details of what to include in the video are included on the application form. Also include a short classical variation or performance footage. Please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like the DVD returned. Please contact Katie Jenkins, the Pre-Professional Division administrator, at 704.372.0101 x2770 or KJenkins@ncdance.org with any questions, to request additional information or to schedule an audition.
