North Carolina Dance Theatre Hosting
Fellowship N’ Movement Shared Performance

Performance features NC Dance Theatre and local dance ministries

Friday, April 23, 7 p.m.
 Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center

Charlotte, N.C. - For the fourth year, North Carolina Dance Theatre is leading a liturgical dance collaboration with area churches. The collaboration, previously known as Dance Friendships, has been renamed Fellowship N’ Movement and is made possible through a Front Porch Grant. “This collaboration has had great impact both on the dance ministries and on NC Dance Theatre,” said April Berry, Dance Theatre director of education and outreach. “This project has afforded wonderful opportunities for dialogue, dance, and fellowship, and lives have been transformed.”

In addition to first year partner Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and second year partner New Birth Charlotte in Huntersville, liturgical dance ensembles from Resurrection and Christ Lutheran Churches, New St. John Missionary Baptist Church and members from Hickory Grove Baptist Church’s Latino Campus are participating this year.

Fellowship N’ Movement project activities began this past December with planning meetings between liturgical dance coordinators and the NC Dance Theatre education staff. Dance workshops were conducted throughout the winter and early spring for ministry participants and NC Dance Theatre apprentices. NC Dance Theatre Company member Mary Ellen Beaudreau, dancers from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, hip-hop artists from Charlotte and Atlanta, and a former dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, led workshops for adults and youth.

Performance

###

North Carolina Dance Theatre has established itself as one of America’s premier dance companies. Led by internationally acclaimed President and Artistic Director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, NC Dance Theatre is based on strong dancers, high energy and a versatile repertoire that ranges from classical ballet to bold contemporary works. NC Dance Theatre School of Dance parallels the professional company’s tradition of excellence.

North Carolina Dance Theatre broke ground on its new 34,000 square foot facility, the Patricia McBride and Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance, in April 2009. Located at 701 North Tryon Street, the facility will house the Company’s rehearsal and administrative spaces, School of Dance and costume shop. NC Dance Theatre expects to move into the Patricia McBride and Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance in spring 2010, with a grand opening scheduled for fall 2010.

North Carolina Dance Theatre is supported, in part, with operating support by the Arts & Science Council. Dance Theatre is also supported by individuals, corporations, and local and national foundations, the North Carolina Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
