Free Dance Program for Children Ages 8 to 10
Charlotte, N.C. – North Carolina Dance Theatre announces the pre-audition information sessions and audition dates for the inaugural 2009-2010 Community Outreach Dance Program. The pre-audition sessions will provide valuable information to students and parents about the program and the audition process.
Selection for the Community Outreach Dance Program will be determined by audition, financial need and family commitment to the program. No prior dance experience is required. NC Dance Theatre President & Artistic Director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, Director of Education and Outreach April Berry and program teaching artists will make up the audition panel. Up to 30 students may be selected at each location.
The new Community Outreach Dance Program will provide free, accessible, high quality dance instruction and performance opportunities to 120 children, ages 8 to 10, in four geographically diverse areas of the county. Participants and their parents will also have access to Dance Theatre’s professional dance performances. Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is partnering with Dance Theatre to promote the program and to provide sites for the classes at several recreation centers. The program is supported by a generous donation of $78,000 from the Women’s Impact Fund (WIF) and is sponsored by Piedmont Natural Gas.
“North Carolina Dance Theatre recognized that underserved children in our community have little access to dance,” said President & Artistic Director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux. “Through WIF’s support, our new Community Outreach Dance Program will provide children with an opportunity to study dance and experience its many benefits.”
Community Outreach Dance Program classes begin September 14, 2009. For more information contact Director of Education and Outreach April Berry at 704.372.0101 x2767 or aberry@ncdance.org.
