COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

North Carolina Dance Theatre offers a variety of community programs that can be tailored to meet the needs of your group.

Community Programs include:

Dance Workshops
Get your group up and moving! North Carolina Dance Theatre’s Community Dance Workshops are a great introduction to dance and may be tailored to the needs and interests of your group. Invite a Dance Theatre Teaching Artist to lead a dance workshop in your space.

Behind-the-scenes tours
These tours are designed for small groups who are studying dance or are interested in what takes place before the curtain goes up! Groups visit NC Dance Theatre in NoDa and watch a company rehearsal, tour the magical costume shop, and meet a professional dancer or two.

Lecture Demonstrations
Dance Theatre comes to your school or public gathering place with a one-hour narrated performance featuring excerpts from Dance Theatre’s current repertoire. This event includes opportunities for the audience to participate, along with a question and answer session with the professional dancers. Note: This performance can be paired with an in-school residency.

Master Classes
Intermediate to advanced dance students have the opportunity to experience the skilled and inspiring teaching of Dance Theatre’s master teachers during a 90-minute master class. Each lesson can be developed to meet the needs and interests of your students. An opportunity not to be missed for aspiring dancers and dance lovers!

Dance 101
A knowledgeable staff member from the North Carolina Dance Theatre will speak to your group about the art of dance. Presentations include a lecture on the history and leadership of the company, background information about ballet and contemporary dance, and a discussion of the current season’s repertory, followed by an open discussion with participants. Promotional materials about Dance Theatre performances will be distributed, and presentations can also include video excerpts and costume samples. Dance 101 events can be tailored to the interests of the host group, and are great for library lectures, university arts appreciation classes or community groups interested in the arts.
