COMMUNITY OUTREACH DANCE PROGRAM

The new Community Outreach Dance Program provides free, accessible, high quality dance instruction and performance opportunities to 120 children, ages 8 to 10, in four geographically diverse areas of the county. Participants and their parents will also have access to North Carolina Dance Theatre’s professional dance performances. Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is partnering with Dance Theatre to promote the program and to provide sites for the classes at several recreation centers. The program is supported by a generous donation of $78,000 from the Women’s Impact Fund (WIF) and is sponsored by Piedmont Natural Gas.

Selection for the Community Outreach Dance Program will be determined by audition, financial need and family commitment to the program. No prior dance experience is required. NC Dance Theatre President & Artistic Director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, Director of Education and Outreach April Berry and program teaching artists will make up the audition panel. Up to 30 students may be selected at each location. Community Outreach Dance Program classes begin in September 2009
