Children’s Division (ages 7-10)
The Children’s Division offers classes in ballet, modern and jazz to children ages 7-10. Students in this division are offered the opportunity to perform with North Carolina Dance Theatre in Nutcracker and other full-length ballets such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Snow White. Year-end Spring Student Performances are held at the Booth Playhouse in the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.

Ballet 1 (ages 7-8) Required: 2 days a week
Also recommended: Modern 1 & Jazz 1
A traditionally structured ballet class incorporating the next level in the classical ballet syllabus. Class length and frequency increases as students learn to do a full barre and center work. More challenging steps as well as musicality skills are introduced both at the barre and in center work, building on previous vocabulary learned.

A more advanced syllabus is offered during hour and a half classes three days a week. Body placement, alignment and overall strengthening are of paramount importance at this level in order to proceed to the next level in the classical ballet syllabus. Knowledge of French terminology is emphasized. Ballet dictionary required at this level and for use in subsequent levels.

With its exciting and ever evolving movement, students learn rhythm, syncopation, isolation and improvisation. This class teaches basic jazz vocabulary and technique derived from classical ballet and modern, and encourages individual expression and style. Students gain strength, flexibility, endurance and coordination while dancing to the upbeat music of today.

Offered to young men interested in exploring dance in an all male environment. Tuition costs are underwritten by sponsors of the program and allow young boys with potential for dance the opportunity to try classes without cost. An audition is required for admission. Stretching, strengthening, muscle coordination and musicality are all emphasized through an introduction to ballet vocabulary. More information
