Children’s Classes are appropriate for both male and female students. All children’s classes except for Children’s Tap, are held at our new location, the Patricia McBride & Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT (ages 3-4)
Students explore musicality, rhythm and the concept of moving creatively through space. Class includes stretching, basic strengthening, balance, motor skills and coordination.

PRE-BALLET (age 5)
Class emphasizes musicality and encourages individual creative expression. A higher skill level is required for balance and coordination. Basic classical ballet vocabulary is introduced with some French terminology.

BEGINNING BALLET
(ages 6-7)
First introduction to a structured ballet class with more advanced stretching and strengthening exercises. Class emphasizes musicality, balance and coordination while strengthening the body core. Barre and centre work are introduced as well as more advanced French terminology.

CHILDREN’S BALLET (ages 7-9)
Required: 3 days a week
Also recommended: Children’s Jazz, Modern & Tap
A traditionally structured ballet class is offered during hour and a half classes three days a week. Students learn to do a full barre and centre work and will continue to increase their technical proficiency. More challenging steps are introduced with a continued emphasis on musicality, body alignment, overall strengthening and the usage of French terminology.

CHILDREN’S JAZZ (ages 7-9)
Students learn the basics of classical and contemporary jazz technique while improving rhythm, motor skills and flexibility. Class set to upbeat, familiar music.

CHILDREN’S MODERN (ages 7-9)
A first introduction to modern dance. Students explore various movement styles, spatial relationships and rhythmic patterns in a structured class environment.

CHILDREN’S TAP (ages 7-10)
Spirit Square location
Class focuses on developing solid tap technique and skills, including coordination, body alignment and rhythm.

MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE I (ages 8-11) & MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE II (ages 12-16)
Musical Theatre Dance introduces students to various theatrical dance styles and performance techniques, focusing on expression, character development and quality of movement. Students learn choreography from various musical theater productions.

BOY’S SCHOLARSHIP (ages 8-10)
Tuition free for accepted students
Class for young men to explore dance in an all male environment. Stretching, strengthening, muscle coordination and musicality are all emphasized through an introduction to a variety of dance styles. Sponsors underwrite the class costs to allow talented young men the opportunity to try dance for no cost. An audition is required for admission.  Call the School at 704.372.3900 for more information and to schedule an audition. Students currently enrolled in the Boys Scholarship program may continue in the summer program at no additional charge.

YOUTH BALLET (
ages 10-13)
Required: 2 days a week
Introductory ballet class for older beginners with no formal training. In this traditionally structured ballet class students will begin with a full barre and progress to centre work to gain technical proficiency. Class will emphasize musicality, body alignment, overall strengthening and the usage of French terminology.
