AUDITIONS

North Carolina Dance Theatre is a Charlotte-based, world class repertory dance ensemble. It performs classic, contemporary and cutting-edge dance with virtuosity, energy, and artistic excellence for local, statewide and national audiences. Dance Theatre’s collective talents provide the opportunity and give us the responsibility to challenge, stimulate, educate, entertain, and thereby enrich our audiences.  Auditions are intended for classically trained dancers who have performing experience with a professional company.

On the day of the audition, applicants should bring:

  • A $20 audition fee (cash or check made payable to North Carolina Dance Theatre)
  • Resume
  • Headshot and full body dance photo
  • Proper ballet attire required, including pointe shoes for women

CAREERS

School of Dance Summer Intensive Intern
June 20 – July 30, 2012

Reporting to the Pre-Professional Division Administrator, the Summer Intensive Intern works directly with the School of Dance administrators, faculty and Summer Intensive dancers. This is a wonderful opportunity to go behind-the-scenes with one of the Nation’s premier dance programs and gain experience in arts administration.

Candidate Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the School staff in the day-to-day functioning of the Summer Intensive program, including administrative tasks
  • Work collaboratively with the School staff in coordinating the Summer Repertory Performance at the end of the program
  • Assist in the planning and coordinating of the program’s weekly excursions and activities
  • Assist the administrative team by completing errands or taking students to the doctor if needed. You will be compensated for mileage.
  • Assist in the maintenance of dancer records, mailing lists and other files
  • Proactively support the School staff and faculty in the management of the intensive dancers and their schedule
  • Manage the sales activity for North Carolina Dance Theatre’s summer merchandise, dancewear, and performance tickets
  • Manage the distribution of the dancers’ lunches and the set-up and clean-up of the lunchroom area

Required Skills:

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility and motivation
  • Basic understanding of administrative responsibilities (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; faxing, photocopying, phone skills, etc.)
  • Ability to work with students ages 11 and older
  • Knowledge of dance recommended but not required

Status: Part-time, Internship (Unpaid)
Shift: The schedule for this internship will be flexible. Hours are 9am – 4pm and may include 2-5 days from Monday-Saturday. It will include some weekends and evenings for excursions and performances. If interested, please send your resume to Katie Jenkins at kjenkins@ncdance.org

The North Carolina Dance Theatre’s Summer Intensive Dance Program is one of the premier Summer Intensives in the Nation and attracts serious dance students from around the country. Open to Intermediate and Advanced students ages 11-22, dancers learn from North Carolina Dance Theatre’s renown School directors, faculty and guest artists. The students train 9 AM to 5 PM six days a week and receive instruction in a variety of dance genres from classical ballet to more contemporary and modern forms.


Development & Finance Internship

Reporting to the Donor Relations and Stewardship Coordinator, the Development Intern is responsible for assisting the employees within the development and finance departments to effectively steward and cultivate donors and other internal and external constituencies important to North Carolina Dance Theatre.  The Development Intern will assist with special event planning in addition to assisting the finance department with projects as needed.  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with staff to compose letters, compile invitation lists, create program materials, and assist with maintaining up to date records. 
  • Assist in planning and executing various events including Dance Theatre’s Annual Gala, Performance Receptions, Sneak Previews, and Opening Night Insiders receptions.   
  • Manage production of donor lists and information for performance playbills and other reports.

Related Skills or Knowledge:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail
  • A passion for the arts/the non-profit industry

Graphic Design & Marketing Internship

North Carolina Dance Theatre seeks a Graphic Design & Marketing Intern. The graphic design and marketing internship position is a new opportunity at NC Dance Theatre. The primary responsibility for this position will be to design, edit and assist with graphic design projects such as print ads, web ads, direct mail and social media at NC Dance Theatre as well as assisting the marketing team with daily tasks. The successful intern will leave this internship with an abundance of professional work to include in a portfolio.

Candidate requirements:

  • Laptop capability with Adobe Design Premium software (Acrobat Pro, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Experience with Adobe Design software (Acrobat Pro, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Experience with social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, Publisher)

Ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Experience with Flash and Dreamweaver
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • A creative sense

Graphic Design & Marketing internship duties will include:

  • Develop and edit marketing materials such as direct mail pieces, playbills, print ads, web ads, flyers and posters.
  • Creating and implementing content for social media outlets.  (Facebook, Twitter and YouTube)
  • Assist with archiving print materials samples.
  • Ability to communicate with printers and publications to submit materials on deadline.
  • Assist marketing department with special events and at performances.
  • Other daily tasks for the marketing department as assigned. 

The schedule for this internship will be flexible. Could include minimal weekends and evenings for special events and performances.  Graphic design work could be done outside of the Dance Theatre office.
